Controversial film about a Lesbian couple to screen at the Yost tonight

Include this in your OC Pride celebrations this weekend: a screening of director Raul Fuentes’ film Todo El Mundo Tiene A Alguien Menos Yo (Everybody’s Got Somebody But Me), a film that deals with a torrid romance between a 30-something book editor named Alejandra and a free-spirited teen named Maria. It will be showing this Saturday at the Yost Theater, followed by a Q&A with the director, according to the OC Weekly.

A reception for the director will precede the event at 6 pm at the theater. Tickets for the reception and screening are $15, and limited to the first 100 reservations. For tickets, visit HERE.

“Todo El Mundo” tells the love story between two very different women: Alejandra, a 30-something book editor, overly critical and seemingly incapable of enjoying life and love, and Maria, a free-spirited private school teen. With complete disregard for rules and regulations, Maria drags Alejandra out of her shell and introduces her to a life based on passion and instinct. But can their relationship survive the pressures of their opposing personalities? (Source: San Diego Gay and Lesbian News)

This film was also the catalyst for massive change in someone’s life. Cony Martinez, Director of Programming for a film festival in southern California, faced opposition when she included the film to be shown alongside others at a Christian university. She believed in this film and many of its kind so much that she stated to her colleagues, “If you don’t accept the program, please accept my resignation.” Though she had to leave her position, it only opened up the opportunity to create broader public access for films such as this one to be viewed and enjoyed in more exciting venues.
