Coalition of OC Animal Groups Promote Adopting a Pet for the Holiday Season

(Orange, CA) OC Animal Care, along with other local Orange County Shelters, non-profit animal rescue organizations, and animal advocacy groups including the Friends of Lake Forest Animals, are joining together to provide resources for Orange County residents considering a new forever friend this holiday season. The coalition will announce the effort during a press conference to be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at the OC Animal Care Center, 561 The City Drive South, in the City of Orange.

“During the holiday season, it is important to remember how many wonderful pets are without homes.” said Ryan Drabek, Interim Director of OC Animal Care. “Orange County residents considering a new pet for the holiday season are encouraged to look to their local animal shelter or non-profit animal rescue organization and give one of our pets a new forever home.”

“A new pet is a big decision for every family,” said Dr. Jim Gardner, member of Friends of Lake Forest Animals. “They not only bring a lot of excitement to their new home, but also a lot of responsibility. However, pets provide unconditional love and studies have shown that they can even help us live longer, happier lives.”

OC Animal Care, other Orange County Shelters, and over 20 local animal rescue and advocacy groups are partnering to offer information on the benefits of shelter adoption, resources on locating your nearest animal shelter or rescue organizations, what to consider when looking for a new pet, and providing demonstrations on how to use online resources to locate that perfect pet match

Starting December 5th, OC Animal Care will be supplying new adopters with a free OC Animal Care mug filled with dog or cat treats and toys with every adoption as a thank you for giving our pets a second chance. In December 2008, OC Animal Care placed over 750 dogs, cats, rabbits and other loveable animals into new homes. The primary goal of this shelter, rescue, and advocacy partnership is to see more homeless pets in new forever homes this holiday!
