City of Santa Ana Railroad Crossing Construction Update, from the OCTA:

Day Work

Construction from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, continues this week at the following crossings:

17th Street view map
Fairhaven Avenue view map: This crossing is permanently closed to vehicle and pedestrian access. Local vehicle access only is permitted past Eastwood Avenue on Fairhaven. Please use the detour at Lincoln Avenue and Santa Clara Avenue.
Lyon Street view map: There will be a full road closure, one lane at a time, for approximately two weeks beginning Monday, March 14. To detour, please use Grand Avenue to Chestnut or McFadden avenues.
McFadden Avenue view map: March 7 to 9 only. This is a partial road closure, as needed.
Ritchey Street view map: March 7 to 10 only. This is a partial road closure, as needed.
Santa Clara Avenue view map: March 10 to 11 only. This is a partial road closure, as needed.

Night Work

Construction from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Wednesday through Sunday, continues this week at the following crossings:

All construction is subject to schedule changes unexpectedly. If you have questions about work at a specific crossing, please call (888) 855-RAIL.

This construction is part of OCTA’s rail safety enhancement program. OCTA is partnering with local cities on the first countywide effort to enhance rail safety at 50 railroad crossings in Orange County.

Signalling systems and crossing gates can fail. When approaching the crossing west bound on Santa Clara, there is no way to see an approaching train. I suggest you consider installation of mirrors that would allow a driver to see up and down the tracks.

I would be happy to have the train horns silenced or at least a reduction of the extent of the signalling late at night.
