Community: CITY OF SANTA ANA ANNOUNCES SUMMER JOBS + PROGRAM

A Call to Local Businesses to Help Our Youth by Participating in the Summer Jobs + Initiative

SANTA ANA, CA (May 17, 2012) – The City is pleased to announce its participation in President Obama’s Summer Jobs + Initiative. The President is calling on businesses, non-profits, and local government to join his Summer Jobs+ initiative and provide pathways to employment for youth this summer.

In an effort to support the Summer Jobs+ initiative, the City is asking for help from local businesses in connecting Santa Ana’s youth to employment. Do you remember your first job? Remember your eagerness, energy and how much you learned form that first experience? Now, businesses can have the chance to give Santa Ana’s youth that same opportunity!

The City of Santa Ana’s WORK Center will provide work readiness workshops to youth ages 16-24 during the months of May and June. Workshops will help to prepare young people to be better employees. Workshop topics include resume writing, interviewing skills, and professional communication skills. Those that complete the series of workshops will receive job placement assistance.

Please join in this effort and make a pledge to hire our local youth. By doing so, you will provide youth on-the-job skills in a learning environment while earning wages for their work. All of the commitments made through the Summer Jobs+ initiative will be accessible to young people through the Summer Jobs+ Bank at www.dol.gov/summerjobs/. This easy-to-use search will help connect low-income youth, community organizations, and committed employers.

Workshops will begin May 14th through June 13th.  Job Fair to be held on June 19, 2012.

For more information, please contact the Santa Ana WORK Center at 714-565-2600.
