The Cambodian Family invites you to support their efforts in “Empowering Families and Building Community” on Friday, September 20, 2013 from 6-9pm at The Grand Garden in Westminster. To RSVP, click here.
For over 33 years, The Cambodian Family has helped thousands of Orange County’s most vulnerable members of society achieve greater health, knowledge, and success, largely due to our dedicated staff, volunteers, partners, and funders. Over the years, they have successfully managed more than $25 million of public and private funding and have established deep roots in our community.
For over twenty years, their Youth Program has actively mentored and encouraged hundreds of youth to stay in school, finish high school, and go on to college. Based on the 2000 Census, only 33% of Cambodians aged 25 and older in Santa Ana continued their education after high school. In the 2010 Census, we see a huge increase to 56%. As the only Orange County organization specializing in serving the Cambodian community, they believe their efforts in preventing high school drop outs and encouraging our youth to pursue higher education through positive engagement, helped to increase this statistic.
In addition, their agency and its leaders have received numerous awards for service to the community at the local and national level. These include the DOJ’s Gould-Wysinger Award for outstanding work in preventing delinquency, and the California Peace Prize, awarded twice to directors of their Youth Program, in 1997 and 2009.
