An elderly bicyclist was killed in a traffic collision in Fountain Valley

On Nov. 21, 2023, at approximately 3:33 p.m., Fountain Valley police officers responded to the scene of a serious traffic collision at Magnolia Street and Ellis Ave.

A black Honda Accord was making a left turn from westbound Ellis Ave. to southbound Magnolia Street when it struck a bicyclist who was riding eastbound on Ellis Ave. in the south curbline crosswalk.

The bicyclist, Charlie Chen, a 68-year-old resident of Fountain Valley, was transported to an area hospital after the collision. He later died of his injuries while at the hospital.

  • "Do. Not. Ride. Bikes. On. Streets!" No exceptions. Drivers today do not have training to drive properly and if an honest mistake is made by a car driver, the bike rider ALWAYS looses. (I ride a fat tire bike, non-EV, on trails only).
