An armed man held off the SAPD for 8 hours today at his home before finally surrendering, according to the O.C. Register.
The unidentified suspect, described as a man in his 60’s, was suspected of pointing a rifle at people from the front yard of his property, located at the 1400 block of Van Ness Ave.
When the police arrived, at around 11:15 a.m., the suspect ran into his home and he was reluctant to communicate with the police officers.
Police negotiators later said that the suspect had been agitated and non-responsive. They called him several times and he would answer the phone then just hang up a few moments later.
Police shut down the block during the standoff, from Edinger Avenue to Borchard Street.
The suspect was alone in the building during the standoff.
