An 87-year old bicyclist was killed by a vehicle near 1st and Center Streets today

Advisory: SAPD Collision Investigation Unit Investigating Fatal Auto vs Bicyclist 2200 West First Street

Deceased: Lien Huu Ha (87) Santa Ana

On Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 12:51 p.m., our officers responded to the intersection of 1st and Center Streets in regards to a vehicle versus bicyclist collision with the bicyclist reported to still be in the roadway. OCFA responded and treated the bicyclist at the scene before transporting him to a local trauma center with major injuries. He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Witnesses stated the bicyclist was initially headed west on 1st Street along the north side. At the intersection of 1st and Center Streets, the bicyclist began to cross in a southerly direction when struck by a vehicle headed east on 1st Street. The driver of the vehicle remained at the collision scene and was cooperating with the investigation. The driver is believed to not be under the influence of dru gs or alcohol at the time of the collision. The bicyclist’s sobriety will be determined from a toxicology analysis completed as part of the autopsy performed by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.

The Santa Ana Police Collison Investigation Unit responded to the scene to investigate the collision. Any witnesses or persons with information about this collision are asked to contact Santa Ana Police Department, Collision Investigation Unit at (714) 245-8200.
