A worker was savagely beaten by karaokers in Garden Grove

Carlos Ayala and his coworkers were paving a parking lot at a Garden Grove shopping center located near Westminster Ave. and Brookhurst St. just before 1 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, when the unthinkable happened.

Ayala asked a group of men who were exiting Hay Karaoke not to step on the freshly poured asphalt. THe men reacted to this simple request by savagely beating Ayala and his coworkers. Ayala bore the brunt of the attack, leaving him with severe brain injuries, including swelling, bleeding and skull fractures.

Ayala was admitted to a local hospital as a John Doe with brain injuries, skull fractures, severe brain swelling and brain bleeding. He was found unconscious and couldn’t speak or walk due to the severity of his injuries.

Ayala’s daughter Sara started a GoFundMe to help pay for her dad’s medical bills. She wrote that:

Unfortunately my family and I were unaware of what happened or where my father was. The process of calling hospitals and having to identify him by describing his features, has been traumatizing. He is a loving and devoted father to my mom and my siblings. My dad and I have a tight relationship and seeing my father in the hospital unable to see or talk to me has affected me and my family deeply. He’s a hardworking man who was doing his job he did no wrong This random and viscous attack has left my father and his coworkers traumatized as well. As this is an ongoing investigation, I cannot say much, but I would appreciate the support and if you can spread the word to bring Justice to my dad. The group of people who attacked my dad must be brought to Justice. My dad and family will face  financial problems as he is the provider for the family. Any donation is appreciated deeply. Thank you in advance.

The Garden Grove Police Department is working to gather surveillance footage of the assault. Reportedly up to 20 people may have been involved. If you have any leads please contact detective D. Camara
