A woman was fatally struck by a hit and run driver in Santa Ana on Wednesday morning

SANTA ANA, CA (August 29, 2024) – An unidentified woman was killed by a vehicle that fled the scene, according to the SAPD.

On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at approximately 10:18 p.m., the Santa Ana Police Department received a report from a motorist regarding a person down in traffic lanes of the bridge located in the area of 3100 W. McFadden Avenue.

Police officers, along with Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), responded to the scene and located an unidentified woman with significant injuries.

The OCFA pronounced the victim deceased, and Homicide Detectives responded to investigate the incident.

Based on the victim’s injuries, it was believed that the blunt force trauma was consistent with a potential traffic collision.

The Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed the victim was walking southbound across the westbound lanes of McFadden Ave. when she was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling westbound. The vehicle failed to remain at the scene of the collision, and there is no vehicle description available at this time.

The Orange County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and took custody of the victim, a Hispanic female in her early to mid-40s, pending positive identification. An autopsy is also pending to determine her cause of death.
