A woman died in Irvine in a fatal collision

A woman has died in Irvine after the vehicle she was riding in was broadsided.

On Saturday evening, at 5:51 p.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to reports of two vehicles involved in a traffic collision on Irvine Boulevard, east of Sand Canyon Avenue.

When officers arrived on scene, a white BMW 430i and a gold Lexus RX300 were involved in a broadside collision. The Lexus was occupied by the driver only and the BMW was occupied by the driver and 4 passengers. A 47-year-old female who was seated in the rear passenger area of the BMW was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Two other passengers in the BMW were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Lexus remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in this collision. The identification of the decedent will be withheld pending notification to next of kin.

IPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the cause of this collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Joshua Balos at 949-724-7024.
