A victim of domestic violence was stabbed outside of Kennedy Elementary School

A scary incident at Santa Ana’s Kennedy Elementary is calling into question the lack of school police at the SAUSD.

The incident occured on May 24 at 11:15 a.m. Santa Ana school police officers were dispatched to Kennedy Elementary School after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident in which a victim was stabbed. The stabbing appears to have occurred outside the school and resulted in a lockout of the campus.

A lockout secures the perimeter (doors and windows) of a building to minimize exposure to a safety threat outside, such as criminal activity in the area. During a lockout, no person (parent, student, staff member, guest, etc.) may enter or leave the building and classes will proceed as usual (to the extent possible).

The suspect was arrested and transported to the OC Central Jail.

OCFA firefighters also arrived on scene to give medical treatment to the stabbing victim.

The investigation is ongoing.

Santa Ana Mayor Valerie Amezcua, a former SAUSD Trustee, noted the incident on her Facebook page and wondered why some people believe we should not have school police officers on our campuses. May of the current SAUSD School Board members have expressed anti-police sentiments in the past few years.
