A three-year-old Santa Ana girl survived a fall from a third-story window

Kaylee Arevalo, a 3-year-old girl, is still recovering at a hospital after she fell out of a third-story window on Feb. 11.

SAPD police officers responded to the scene, at an alley off 15th Street, when the accident happened. The officers found out that Arevalo had got onto a couch, leaned up against a window and then had fallen out, landing in the alley.

The police are not sure if the window in question had a screen.

Arevalo has since undergone two surgeries and remains hospitalized.

Arevalo’s mom, Wendy Liborio, told the police officers that the family was not sure Arevalo would survive her first surgery, but she did. The treating doctors then told the family that if Arevalo survived she may not be able to to walk or speak again.

However Arevalo has been making great progress. Her mom has faith that her little girl will recover. She has advise for other parents in Santa Ana – be more cautious as to how their home is set up and to take care of things like missing window screens as soon as possible.

SAPD homicide and child abuse detectives visited the family on Thursday to drop off gifts. The SAPD is treating this not as a criminal case but rather as a tragic accident.
