A suspect was arrested for firing a gun at Golden West College

On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Huntington Beach Police Department (HBPD) responded to Golden West College after receiving a call of possible shots heard. They arrived and contacted a witness parked in a lot adjacent to the school. The witness reported seeing a subject acting suspiciously, firing a single shot into the air. The subject was not located then, but a description of him and his vehicle was provided to HBPD. Officers worked with school personnel, and security measures were taken. No one was injured during the incident.

On Friday, July 21, 2023, Officers responded to a parking structure in the 7500 block of Edinger Avenue regarding a suspicious subject walking around with a gun. Officers arrived at the location and located a possible vehicle related to the subject. Officers quickly recognized the vehicle as the one involved in the shooting on Wednesday.

Officers also located the suspicious subject a short distance from the vehicle and detained him. During the investigation, Officers determined that the subject was the same person who shot into the air on Wednesday. Officers searched the vehicle and the subject’s residence, locating a handgun and other evidence linking the subject to the shooting. The suspect was arrested for discharging a firearm in a school zone, possessing a gun by an addict, and willful discharge of a firearm in a negligent manner.

Arrested: Talon Brunelle, 25-year-old male, Huntington Beach resident.
