Accused of trying to carjack a Pizza Hut delivery driver, a suspect was taken into custody Wednesday morning after barricading himself for hours in a Santa Ana home, according to the O.C. Register.
The SAPD started receiving calls at about 7:30 p.m. about an unidentified suspect who had tried to rob and carjack a Pizza Hut delivery driver.
The poor Pizza Hut driver was pistol-whipped by the suspect near a Chevron gas station on South Bristol Street. The suspect ran of when he spotted the police, according to the SAPD.
The suspect ran into the neighborhood, jumping over several fences and eventually he entered a home at the 3200 block of South Street near Bear Street.
The family was at that home when the suspect came into their house and a man was confronted the suspect.
Fortunately SAPD police officers were able to get the man and his family out of the home but the suspect then refused to leave – and that turned into a very long standoff.
SAPD hostage negotiators came to the home and a police robot was sent into the house as well. Negotiators even tossed a cell phone into the house to try to get the suspect to talk to them, but he did not.
Finally, at about 4 a.m. on Wednesday morning, SWAT members fired flash-bang grenades into the home. But that was not the end of the standoff.
The suspect finally surrendered and was arrested before 7 a.m.
That poor family had an awful night!
The police did not identify the suspect. I would not be surprised to find out he is a previous felon who was released early from prison by former Governor Jerry Brown.
