Santa Ana Police Department

Advisory: Suspect In Stolen Vehicle Flees From Officers – Crashes Into Poles & Parked Vehicle

Suspect: Alfredo Hernandez (38) Santa Ana

On Wednesday, September 13th at 4:43 a.m. hours, our officers attempted to stop a vehicle that was just stolen from the victim’s driveway in the area of Hazard and Jackson. The suspect, Alfredo Hernandez, 38-years old, led our officers in a brief pursuit that covered a little more than a mile to the area of N. Hawley and W. 5th Street. The suspect crashed the victim’s vehicle into several small poles and a parked vehicle in the open parking lot.

It appears based on the initial investigation; the suspect attempted to jump out of the moving vehicle and was run over by the left rear tire of the vehicle. Officers located the suspect lying in the intersection of 5th and Hawley and he was arrested at the scene. A small amount of suspected narcotics was found on the suspect’s person and he has an arrest history for stolen vehicles and weapons violations. No officers or innocent bystanders were injured during this investigation.

As a result of the collision, the driver suffered severe internal injuries and OCFA responded to the scene to treat his injuries. He was later transported to UCI Medical Center in critical condition. Suspect Hernandez faces charges of Possession of stolen property, Grand Theft Auto, Felony Evading and Possession of Narcotics.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene and is handling the collision investigation.
