On Sunday, January 28, 2024, at approximately 6:06 p.m., the Santa Ana Police Department received calls regarding a pedestrian struck by a vehicle near the intersection of W. Gunther Street and S. 1st Street, according to the SAPD.
Officers from the Santa Ana Police Department, along with the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to the scene. OCFA transported the male pedestrian to a local hospital for medical treatment where he was soon pronounced deceased due to his injuries.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the pedestrian was walking northbound across 1st Street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. At this time, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
