A pedestrian was struck by an Amtrak Surfliner train on the railroad tracks between Grand and Chestnut Avenues around 11:32 p.m. on Wednesday night, in Santa Ana.
The pedestrian was declared to be deceased by the paramedics who responded to the scene.
The identity of the pedestrian has not been released yet by the OC Coroner.
The SAPD is not sure yet why the pedestrian was on the railroad tracks. However transients are often seen in that area.
The Amtrak train that struck the pedestrian was traveling northbound to Los Angeles. The train was delayed for hours while the investigation took place. Traffic was also affected on local surface streets.
The accident occurred just south of the DMV and a few blocks west of the SAUSD headquarters and Villa Fundamental Intermediate.
