A passenger died in a two car collision in Santa Ana on Monday afternoon

On Monday, December 18, 2023, at 4:46 P.M., the Santa Ana Police Department received multiple calls regarding a major traffic collision in the area of 1st Street and Baker Street.

When SAPD Officers arrived, they discovered the collision involved two vehicles (a sedan and a pickup truck), and located a passenger in the sedan who was unresponsive. The Orange County Fire Authority also responded to the scene, declaring the passenger deceased.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the involved sedan was traveling south on Baker Street through the intersection of 1st Street, when it was struck by the pickup truck traveling east on 1st Street. Both drivers sustained injuries and were transported to Orange County Global Medical Center, where the driver of the sedan is in critical condition and the driver of the pickup truck is in stable condition. The cause of the collision is still under investigation and it is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor.

The Santa Ana Police Department’s Collision Investigations Unit (CIU) is investigating this incident.
