A man was shot by Irvine police officers after stabbing a female relative

Police officers fatally shot a man who was seen stabbing a woman in an Irvine neighborhood today, near Green Tree Lane and Coral Tree Lane at 2:51 p.m., according to the Irvine Police Department.

Irvine police responded to the scene after getting calls about an assault at the home.

The police officers quickly arrived and observed the male attacking the female with a knife. When the officers tried to intervene, the suspect advanced towards an officer and an officer-involved shooting occurred. A knife was recovered at the scene.

The attack happened on the street outside the home. 

The responding police officers had no choice but to fire their guns, immediately killing the suspect.

Unfortunately the female stabbing victim succumbed to her wounds and was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The police officers rendered medical aid to both the stabbing victim and the suspect, but both were pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Paul Parvea Montazer of Las Vegas, Nevada. He is the son of the victim, 72-year-old Parvin Montazer of Irvine
