A hit and run driver is still on the loose after killing a young Santa Ana man almost a year ago

A hit and run driver killed a pedestrian and left another victim with lifetime injuries after a collision at approximately 2:07 a.m., on April 2, 2023, at 500 West St. Gertrude Place in Santa Ana. That driver is still on the loose almost a year later.

The survivor, Amber Khan, is still hoping to find justice and is hoping someone saw something that morning and can help the SAPd to track down the hit and run driver.

The driver fled the scene leaving Khan with grievous injuries and her friend, Joshua Cervantes, a 21-year-old, unfortunately passed away.

Cervantes was a talented artist and the sweetest soul, loved by everyone around him, according to Khan. It is about to be a year since and there still hasn’t been many or any updates or movement by the Santa Ana police involved in his case, no leads to his murderer, who is assumed to still be living freely.

Cervantes’ family is offering a reward to anyone who has any information on his accident.

They will be holding a candlight vigil for Cervantes this Tuesday on April 2, 2024, at 7 p.m., at 506 W. Gertrude St.

Cervantes was born on December 18, 2001 in Fountain Valley, CA, according to his obituary. He was an obvious artist from a very young age, with art being his favorite subject in school. He even won first place in a drawing championship. Cervantes also stayed active playing tennis, participating in track & field, and learning karate; for which he won many medals. After Cervantes graduated from Tustin High School in 2019, he balanced working as a server with pursuing his artistic passions, enjoying the variety of life and the thrill of learning different trades.  Cervantes was survived by his parents, J. Armando Cervantes and Frances Morga; his brother Jionni, and a large group of friends.

The community, his friends and family – all his loved ones have not had peace ever since Cervantes’ life was wrongfully taken and they want justice!

The family is offering between $15,000 to $30,000 to whomever can provide a tip leading to the perpetrator’s arrest and conviction.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run crash is urged to contact Santa Ana Police Inv. L. Bao at 714-245-8223 or submit a tip to OC Crime Stoppers at 1-855-847-6227.
