A group of teens was caught on video as they beat up an elderly man in Newport Beach

A shocking video that went viral on social media shows a group of suspects attacking an elderly man in Newport Beach. The assault happened on Saturday, at East Balboa Blvd. and Main St., in Newport Beach.

When the Newport Beach police responded to the scene the victim was down with serious injuries. He was taken to a local hospital and is apparently in stable condition.

In the video you can see the attackers, who seem to be teenagers, shouting at the older gentleman as they are all in the middle of the street. A voice is heard in the background encouraging the teens to beat the man down.

The teens then descend on the man and end up knocking him to the ground. with a kick to the face.

A bystander came to the victim’s defense but by then he was unconscious. The suspects all got away before the police could arrive.

The suspects all appear to be juvenile males. The police have not yet given out any more information or hinted at the motive.

Anyone with information that can assist the investigation is asked to contact Newport Beach police Detective Gamble at 949-644-3771, or mgamble@nbpd.org.
