A Garden Grove mother of two was killed by a possible DUI driver on Mother’s Day

Janet Carrillo, a 40-year-old Garden Grove woman, was killed when Jadir Salazar Montano, a possible DUI driver, crashed into her home early last Sunday, May 12, 2024, according to the Garden Grove Police Department.

Carrillo was a wife and the mother of two teenage boys. Tragically her life was cut short on Mother’s Day.

The driver crashed into the Carillo residence at around 2 a.m., at the 11800 block of Magnolia Street. Police officers responded after getting multiple calls about a hit-and-run.

The responding police officers noted that a car had crashed into the residence. Carillo was pronounced dead at the scene after she was trapped by the car that smashed into her home.

Montano took off on foot. But he was chased down two blocks from the accident scene by Carillo’s brother-in-law, Esteban Gomez, 57, who lives next door to the Carillo residence. ,Three other witnesses, who were in a car together, also drove after Montano. Police officers arrested him when they caught up.

Montano is a 35-year-old man from Riverside.

Police officers are waiting for the results of post-accident tests to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the fatal collision.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Carillo left behind her husband, Oswaldo and her two sons, Obie and Ian. A family friend started a GoFundMe page to help the family to pay for funeral expenses. The friend wrote that “Janet was a beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, aunt, niece and best friend. She touched countless lives with her kindness, love and generosity.”
