A driver died today after crashing his car into a cement truck in Santa Ana

On Saturday, July 22, 2023, at approximately 8:07 A.M., the Santa Ana Police Department received multiple calls regarding a traffic collision involving a cement truck and a sedan at 2400 E. 17th Street. Officers from the Santa Ana Police Department responded to the scene, along with Orange County Fire Authority. The driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the passenger was transported to a local hospital where she remains in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed the sedan was exiting the 55 Freeway south onto 17th Street. The cement truck was stopped westbound on 17th St. in the left turn lane when the sedan, traveling at a high rate of speed, exited the freeway and collided with the cement truck. The driver of the cement truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
