A distracted O.C. driver flipped a car over after hitting a parked vehicle

A driver recently flipped a car over and was fortunate to sustain only minor injuries, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.

The police investigators noted that this collision involved a vehicle versus a parked car. They also determined that the collision was the result of distracted driving.

The Costa Mesa Police Department reminds everyone that this incident should serve as a reminder to put the phone down and keep your eyes on the road. Please don’t drive distracted, stay alert and keep the streets safe for everyone.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration claims that using a cell phone while driving killed 3,142 people in the U.S. in 2020, and claimed 3,522 lives in 20210

What Is Distracted Driving?

Distracted driving is any activity that diverts attention from driving, including talking or texting on your phone, eating and drinking, talking to people in your vehicle, fiddling with the stereo, entertainment or navigation system — anything that takes your attention away from the task of safe driving.

Texting is the most alarming distraction. Sending or reading a text takes your eyes off the road for 5 seconds. At 55 mph, that’s like driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed.
