On February 17, 2024, at 3:55 a.m., the Santa Ana Police Department received multiple calls regarding a traffic collision in the area of Bristol Street and Alton Avenue. SAPD Officers, along with the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), responded to the scene where they discovered the collision involved a bicyclist and a vehicle. The bicyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene by OCFA.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the vehicle was traveling northbound on Bristol St. approaching Alton Ave. when it struck a bicyclist traveling eastbound across the northbound lanes of travel. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation when police arrived.
At this time, it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
