SOLORIO AMASSES STRONG CAMPAIGN WARCHEST IN PREPARATION FOR SENATE RUN THIS YEAR
Santa Ana – Community College Trustee and State Senate candidate Jose Solorio has amassed a campaign coffer of $540,000 for what may be the most hotly-contested State Senate race in the state this year. Last week the Solorio for Senate campaign also announced that State Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg and the incoming Senate leader Kevin de León have also endorsed his campaign bid. They will make the race a Senate Democratic Caucus top candidate priority for this 2014 election cycle.
Solorio, running in the open 34th Senate District, says his campaign finance reports being submitted this week manifest the strength of his campaign. For the campaign reporting period, which covers July 1 to December 31, 2013, Solorio shows $438,000 cash-on-hand in his Solorio for Senate committee and $102,000 in his Prospertity for California campaign committee. This puts him far ahead of most candidates for similar seats around California.
“I am really pleased that we continue to see an outpouring of assistance from organizations, trade unions, businesses and individuals who understand the importance of keeping this seat in the hands of an experienced elected official,” Solorio said. “It feels like a growing tidal wave of support. As we speak, many leaders and organizations are making early endorsements and decisions in support of our campaign. We’re already ontrack for exceeding our fundraising goals for 2014 as well.”
The 34th district includes all or parts of the communities of Anaheim, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Rossmoor, Santa Ana, Seal Beach and Westminster.
Community College Trustee Jose Solorio is the President of the Board of Trustees for the Rancho Santiago Community College District, which oversees Santa Ana College and Santiago Canyon College, and represents 700,000 residents in the cities of Anaheim, Garden Grove, Irvine, Orange, Santa Ana, Tustin, and Villa Park. Prior to that, he represented the cities of Anaheim, Garden Grove and Santa Ana in the State Assembly for six years. He holds a bachelor’s degree from UC Irvine and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University.
