2010 LULAC O.C. Hispanic Women Recognition Awards on Nov. 20

We are pleased to announce the 2010 Orange County Hispanic Women Recognition Awards program.  The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Santa Ana Council #147 has announced the selection of seven women as the recipients of the Orange County Hispanic Women Recognition Awards of the Year.

Honorees will be recognized at an awards banquet on Saturday, November 20, 2010.

Recipients are chosen based on their meaningful voluntary community efforts, personal accomplishments, and their involvement in civic affairs. Please join us in recognizing these outstanding community leaders! Please mark your calendar accordingly.

Santa Ana LULAC has renewed this popular and noteworthy event to acknowledge Orange County’s Hispanic women for their accomplishments and to fundraise for its local educational scholarship fund for young Santa Ana students pursuing post-secondary studies.

Contributions and sponsorships are welcomed and will help to assist Santa Ana LULAC #147 to support young students in their pursuit of higher education.

The mission and objectives of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is to advance the economic development, educational advancement, public policy outcomes, housing opportunities, health awareness, and general civil rights protection of Latinos in the United States and Puerto Rico through community-based programs and services through more than 700 local LULAC councils nationwide.

Established in 1946, Santa Ana LULAC Council #147 is the oldest LULAC council in California and is an affiliate of Orange County LULAC District#1 and the LULAC National network. LULAC National was founded in 1929, and is a Texas non-profit corporation with its primary national office in Washington, D.C.

Our Editor, Art Pedroza, worked at the O.C. Register and the OC Weekly and studied journalism at CSUF and UCI. He has lived in Santa Ana for over 30 years and has served on several city and county commissions. When he is not writing or editing Pedroza specializes in risk control and occupational safety. He also teaches part time at Cerritos College and CSUF. Pedroza has an MBA from Keller University.
