A Santa Ana Unified School District employee driving a work box truck struck and killed a 13-year-old bicyclist named Priscilla Vallejo, on Monday morning, before 7:50 a.m., as she was in a crosswalk on the West Edinger Avenue and South Center Street intersection, causing officials to close a major street for at least six hours, according to the O.C. Register.

Police officers and OCFA paramedics performed CPR on the victim, but they were not successful. She died at the accident location due to “severe injuries to the head and chest.”

Police found the victim’s bike stuck under the school district’s truck and reportedly the truck driver was, as one might expect, very distraught.”

The accident happened near Gerald P. Carr Intermediate School and Diamond Elementary School. Police do not know if the victim was attending summer sessions at one of these schools.

The police closed down West Edinger Avenue near South Center Street, and the closure will last for the next few hours.

The truck driver was not injured and was cooperating with police. No further information was immediately released, according to ABC News.
