The SAPD had a heck of a weekend as a total of five shootings went down on Saturday night. We had previously reported that there had been three shootings. But now that the smoke has cleared the SAPD investigators have increased the violent tally.

Overall six people were shot in Santa Ana on Saturday night. Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna admitted on Sunday that he couldn’t remember hearing about that many shootings in one night, according to the O.C. Register

The updated shootings included an incident at the 600 block of South Raitt Street. A 17-year-old boy was walking home on  when he heard gunshots and realized he had been struck in his upper torso. The victim ended up at the UC Irvine Medical Center just before 9 p.m. with a gunshot wound.

The victim admitted to the SAPD police investigators that he heard a vehicle speeding westbound toward Bristol Street, but as is often the case the victim did not cooperate when the police officers asked him how the shooting occurred.

This shooting occurred northeast of Jerome Park in Santa Ana’s Ward 4, which is represented by Councilman David Benavides.

In another reported shooting, several SAPD police officers heard numerous shots fired at the 900 block of South Main Street at about 10:45 p.m. and upon arrival, found a male victim with a gunshot wound in his lower torso.

The victim was reportedly walking on the west side of South Main Street when he a suspect confronted him on the east side of the street. The victim was struck by a gunshot after several rounds were fired at him by a suspect that was described as a male with curly hair wearing a hooded sweatshirt. The victim was treated at a local hospital.

This shooting happened northeast of Ben Franklin Elementary School in Santa Ana’s Ward 2, which is represented by Councilwoman Michele Martinez.

The SAPD received a call just before 7 p.m. earlier in the evening about shots fired and a possible victim down at the 900 block of South Townsend Street. Sure enough when the police arrived at the scene they found a man who had been shot in his upper torso. The man ended up in critical condition at a local hospital.

The South Townsend Street shooting happened right next to Jerome Park in Santa Ana’s Ward 4, which is represented by Councilman David Benavides.

A few minutes later another man was shot – and he showed up at a local hospital with a gunshot wound that was described as not life-threatening. The SAPD believe that this man was shot in the same area as the previous victim but they are not yet sure as to the motive in these attacks.

Another shooting took place just before 8 p.m. Two SAPD police officers who were driving north on Durant Street, near 15th St., heard what sounded like numerous shots being fired. They then saw a man running with a gun in his hand, at the intersection. So of course the police officers pursued the man.

The suspect dropped his gun and he tried to hide for a few minutes. However the police officers were eventually able to arrest him. They found he also had a gunshot wound in his upper torso. That man was taken to a local hospital and he is expected to survive.

The police investigators were able to recover a weapon from that scene. They are trying to figure out if this man’s wound might have been self-inflected.

This shooting happened near Willard Intermediate School in Santa Ana’s Ward 2, which is represented by Councilwoman Michele Martinez.

Yet another shooting happened at around 8:47 p.m. at the 1100 block of South Standard Ave., where shots were fired. SAPD police officers who responded to the scene found one man who had been shot in his lower extremities. He is now at a local hospital with what is believed to be a none-life threatening injury.

The police investigators believe that this man might have been a bystander who got caught in a crossfire during a shooting. The police officers found numerous bullet casings at the scene.

This shooting happened in Santa Ana’s Ward 2, which is represented by Councilwoman Michele Martinez.

As we have come to expect in this town the suspects in all of these shootings remain at large. That’s right. They could start shooting again tomorrow.

  1. Where is Villegas? Why hasn’t he cleaned up the streets wasn’t he suppose to be in law enforcement or something? Is it because he hasn’t fired the city manager and instead put a puppet as current cm?
