A high-speed crash left one person dead and two others sought by police in Santa Ana Monday morning, according to KTLA News.

The accident happened this morning just after 2 a.m. when a driver in a silver Mercedes Benz ran a red light while speeding southbound at the intersection of North Bristol Street and West 1st St., according to the O.C. Register.

The speeding driver broadsided a red Ford Mustang that was headed eastbound through the intersection, fatally injury the Mustang’s driver, Mitchell Viturino, 61, of Fullerton.

A witness reported that two injured men exited the Mercedes Benz.

Paramedics from the O.C. Fire Authority found a man in his 40s lying on the grass near the accident scene and they took him to UCI Medical Center in Orange where he was treated for minor back and hip pain.

Another man who police believe was in the Mercedes Benz during the car accident ended up at the Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana, with a fractured leg and minor cuts.

Police investigators do not yet know if one of these suspects was the driver. No arrests have been made. Both of the suspects are denying that they were the drivers. The police are checking blood evidence in the Mercedes Benz to establish who the driver was.

Authorities did not know if one of those men was the driver, and no arrests have been made yet.

As for the driver of the Mustang, he was trapped in the wreckage. OCFA firemen used the jaws of life to cut into the car in hopes of saving him. However by the time the paramedics were able to access the injured driver he had passed away.

The Mustang’s driver remained in the car at 7 a.m. when the O.C. Coroner responded.  OCFA officials were planning on extricating his body this morning.

The SAPD is expected to reopen the intersection at 11 a.m. today.

KTLA has posted a video of the scene here.

  1. Of course the coward driver left the scene so by the time police finds him his B.A.C. will be lower and recieve a less severe charge, they should charge him with aggravated murder.
