Santa Ana Police Officer Amadu Kabia succumbed to cancer recently – but he worked until he no longer could.  This Monday, the Santa Ana Police Department and the Santa Ana City Council meeting honored Kabia, presenting a City Flag to his mother and his family, who the Santa Ana Police Officers Association flew here from New York.

It was a very touching ceremony.

Today we received a message from Bill Cunningham, the Director of the Santa Ana Police Foundation, about Kabia’s passing:

I was moved today. By attending the memorial service for Officer Amadu Kabia this morning, I was struck with the pride our officers have for one of their own. I was struck by the pride they have for each other, and the pride they have for the City of Santa Ana. These fine men and women stand tall every day and say to the world, yes, I am Santa Ana.

Officer Kabia did not succumb due to an on-the-job altercation, but the more insidious cancer that can strike us all who do not put our necks on the line daily for the public good, as Amadu did for you and me. Nevertheless, Santa Ana’s finest stood proud for Officer Kabia and his family. And they stood proud for you and me.

Santa Ana Police Pride – I feel a bit more of it today.

There are a lot of dedicated police officers at the SAPD who, like Kabia, go above and beyond the call of duty.  We thank them and join them in mourning Officer Kabia.  He is gone, but not forgotten!
