On Thursday, January 4, 1996, an unidentified suspect murdered Christopher Hervey (22) in the City of Santa Ana, of Orange County, California. After extensive investigation, the case went cold.

The unsolved Hervey murder transferred to the purview of the Orange County Cold Case Homicide Task Force (OCHTF). Through ongoing investigation, Cold Case Homicide Detectives followed leads to Austin, Texas.

On Tuesday, June 9, 2020, Detectives from the OCHTF and the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) Homicide Section conducted a follow-up investigation with the assistance of the Austin Police Department. Detectives executed a search warrant and seized items of evidentiary value. The investigation is ongoing.
