Ernesto Isaiah Luquin, a 24-year-old man, had reason to celebrate last Thursday as felony charges he was facing after being arrested on May 30, 2020 were dropped. The charges were in connection to rioting that broke out in Santa Ana after the killing of George Floyd.

On May 30, 2020, a Santa Ana Unified School District police officer flagged down a police officer to report that someone threw a large rock and a beer bottle at his squad car at Bristol Street and McFadden Avenue while shouting, “(Expletive) the police,” police said last year.

Luquin was arrested as a suspect in that incident and charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer.

Prosecutors dismissed the two felony counts of assault with a weapon on a peace officer.

The police never clarified why Luquin was arrested in the first place. Apparently their evidence was sketchy enough to warrant tossing out the charges.
