Advisory: “Operation Clean Sweep” – Multi-Agency Fugitive Apprehension Operation in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA, CA – September 20-21, 2017

Together with multiple federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, the Santa Ana Police Department conducted a large-scale fugitive apprehension sweep throughout the City of Santa Ana over a two-day operation dubbed “Operation Clean Sweep”. The operation occurred in conjunction with the recently created partnership between the Santa Ana Police Department and US Marshals Service. Given the scope of this important initiative, the operation included personnel from the Santa Ana Police Department, US Marshals Service, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, State of California Parole and Orange County Probation Offices. Nearly 200 subjects with outstanding warrants for robberies, assaults, sex crimes, and parole and probation violations were targeted.

On September 20, 2017, over 100 law enforcement officers were dispatched throughout the City of Santa Ana with warrants in hand, following leads to residences and businesses related to those wanted for felony arrest. The operation continued through the afternoon of September 21, 2017. As a result, 30 people were arrested and booked into jail and one firearm was collected as evidence. In addition, valuable information and intelligence was obtained by officers to continue to pursue the arrest of those subjects who remain at large. There will be an ongoing and continued effort by the Santa Ana Police Department to locate and arrest these individuals.

We owe it to the victims targeted in these crimes and to the officers / detectives that have worked diligently investigating these cases for closure,” said Santa Ana Police Chief David Valentin.

“These types of operations are vital to maintaining the safety of the very communities within which we live and work. The ability of local, state and federal law enforcement to work together in tracking down these fugitives is vital to the peace and happiness of our communities,” said Bert Tapia, Chief Inspector for the United States Marshals Service.

“Crime does not operate in a silo; its effects can stretch beyond city borders and agency jurisdiction,” said Orange County Undersheriff Don Barnes. “Often, the most effective and efficient approach to apprehend those victimizing our communities is strong inter-agency partnerships. We’re proud to be a part of this collaborative effort to target criminals.”
