Community: Police Department Contracts with Central Parking for Parking Enforcement Duties
In an effort to provide more efficient and effective services to the community, the Santa Ana Police Department has contracted with Central Parking System, Inc. to assume some of the City’s on-street parking enforcement effective September 4, 2012.
Central Parking’s primary responsibility will be to monitor the weekly street sweeping routes but they may also issue citations for other violations including, but not limited to, parking in an alley, no parking/stopping zones and permit parking districts.
The Santa Ana Police Department and Central Parking have been working diligently to ensure a seamless transition. However, if any member of the public has any issues or concerns resulting from the transition they may contact Central Parking at (714) 751-2355 (on or after September 4th) or the Santa Ana Police Department’s parking control supervisor at (714) 245-8225.

I thought the SEIU was opposed to any outsourcing?
Well, as I understand it, the cops don’t have the budget for meter maids and as such the city is losing out on ticket revenue. This contracted service brings needed revenue to the city and pays for itself, sans pensions and benefits.
WITH THE CITY DOING THE JOB, THEY WOULD AT LEAST GIVE THE DAY AFTER OR BEFORE A HOLIDAY, A BREAK. BUT THIS COLD HEARTED CO. DOES NOT..AND THE METER MAIDS ARE VERY RUDE..WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THE CITY WOULD AT LEAST GIVEN US A HEADS UP..
I agree. Officer Pederson cited me while I was in my car today and would not reply to any of my questions as to why I was being ticketed for parking in a no parking zone although I was not parked. She didn’t even treat me as if I were a human being- I was just an easy way to fill her quota. I called the number to fight the citation and have not gotten through to an actual person yet. I am not impressed.

Officer Pederson ticketed the commercial vehicle I was in on March 21, 2014. It is a clearly marked commercial vehicle with company branding all over it including our Tax I.D. number.
I tried to talk to her so I can try to understand why I’m being ticketed answering a call from a Santa Ana resident. She would not engage with me at all and jumped in her car and drove off. I’ve since tried to call Santa Ana police Department who told me to call Central Parking, I’ve called them several times and have not heard back from them. I am very frustrated because all I want is some clarification on how to proceed doing business in Santa Ana for the future. Do you honestly expect us to tell customers we can’t come out in the 4hour time window you give on street sweeping signs? We have hundreds of customers in Santa Ana and thousands throughout Southern California. From past experience I’ve never had any problems with street sweepers.The house I was in front of had cars in the driveway so I wouldn’t have been able to park there if I wanted to nor should I have to because many customers are displeased when we park in there driveway, people like to come and go as they please and don’t want to fuss with us blocking their car. Is there some kind of county wide sticker that could be issued for commercial vehicles, or should I just chalk this up to the price of doing business in Santa Ana? Do you Ticket other government vehicles blocking the street? If you don’t, why? You probably justify not doing it because you believe you’re all ”serving” the people of Santa Ana, but I’m doing the same exact thing. In the moment I’m doing a termite job for a customer in Santa Ana that resident sees more value in the service I’m providing than the 18 feet the street sweeper cant sweep while I’m there. I”m well aware that I can protest the parking violation, but why should I have to? Common sense would have shown even the densest individual that I was clearly there doing a job, I know people can take a lot of liberty with what they define as a commercial vehicle, but if officer Pederson couldn’t see I was clearly there doing a job and that I was clearly in a marked commercial vehicle than the city of Santa Ana needs to train her or make some way for commerce to not shut down for street sweeping.
It is easy. Read the signs and don’t park there.
