REP. SANCHEZ APPLAUDS RELEASE OF HISPANIC THEMED STAMPS

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) today applauded the release of five new stamps commemorating the life and work of Latino music legends. Honored in the stamp collection are artists Tito Puente, Carmen Miranda, Celia Cruz, Selena and Carlos Gardel.

Last June, Rep. Sanchez led a letter to the United States Postal Service (USPS) recommending that stamps featuring Hispanic themes be issued more frequently, and specifically advocating for the feature of Hispanic musical artists. While the USPS does produce some Hispanic themed stamps, they are not issued as frequently as other American heritage stamps and Congresswoman Sanchez urged USPS to issue Hispanic themed stamps annually.

“I thank the U.S. Postal Service for doing more to honor Latino history,” said Rep. Sanchez. “Stamps educate the American public on items of cultural significance and I applaud the Postal Service for honoring the important contributions of these five legendary Latino musicians, whose performances have enriched the lives of Americans across the country and had a lasting impact on American music.”

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is proud to represent California’s 47th Congressional District, which includes the cities of Anaheim, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and parts of Fullerton in Orange County. She serves as Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Strategic Forces and a senior member of the Committee on Homeland Security. Rep. Sanchez is also a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition and sits on the bipartisan, bicameral Joint Economic Committee.
