Yesterday, President Trump activated the National Guard to the three states hit hardest by the coronavirus: New York, Washington, and our state, California. National Guard units are expected to be activated in Orange County to assist in providing food and supplies as well as performing vital humanitarian support missions to local and state agencies.

“I applaud our brave men and women in uniform that have been activated in California to assist the people of this great state as we combat the coronavirus pandemic,” said Michelle Steel, Chairwoman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors. “I welcome the National Guard’s assistance in providing necessary food and supplies to our residents in this time of great need.”

First elected to the Orange County Board of Supervisors in 2014, Michelle Steel represents the residents of the Second District, which includes, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Huntington Beach, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Seal Beach, Stanton, the unincorporated area of Rossmoor, and portions of Buena Park and Fountain Valley. Steel, a successful businesswoman and renowned taxpayer advocate, previously served as Vice Chair of the State Board of Equalization where she represented more than eight million people in Southern California, including all of Orange County, as one of the state’s 12 constitutional officers.
