Many families are struggling to survive this Thanksgiving.  My friend Beatriz Fernandez, who was employed by the U.S. Census this year, is involved with an effort to feed these families, via her church.  Here are the details about how you can get involved in this wonderful charitable effort:

Dear Friends,

Each year our church, Promesas de Yahweh Ministries (PDYM), distributes Thanksgiving baskets and toys for children during the holiday season. Also, as some of you might already know, we continue to provide grocery bags to people in need every weekend at our new location: 1622 S. Main Street, Santa Ana, 92707 (corner of Main and Pomona).

Now more than ever, due to unemployment and financial hardship, many families have turned to us for help. In fact, last year (and this year) US Census staff volunteered at our food distribution site and can attest that people do not mind waiting one-three hours in line for a bag of groceries.

If you know of any families in need of groceries (vegetables, fruit, canned food, bread), our church distributes bags every Sunday at 10:00 am. No ID/address verification required. Or, if you or someone you know would like to volunteer, please call me at (714) 404-0029.

Furthermore, last year, Census staff helped our church serve a Thanksgiving dinner to those that had nowhere to go. Unfortunately, we will be unable to provide this service this year. However, it is not too late to make a $5, $10… donation to purchase a turkey and/or a Thanksgiving basket for those families on our “wait” list. Your minimal donation will make a difference.

Please note: your donation is tax deductible for income tax purposes as PDYM is now a non-profit organization. A receipt will be mailed to you as soon as we receive your donation. Please take a moment to mail your donation to Promesas de Yahweh Ministries: 389 N. Fern Street, Orange, CA 92867. Please make your check payable to Promesas de Yahweh Ministries.

Thank you for your continued support. May you and your loved ones have a Happy Thanksgiving and a joyous holiday season.

Sincerely,
Beatriz Fernández
