College scholarship applications are now being accepted by HEEF (the Hispanic Education Endowment Fund).  The application period is from Monday, January 3 – Friday, March 4, 2011.  Application instructions will be available beginning Monday, January 3, 2011. Online applications will be available Monday, January 3, 2011 and the application period will continue through Friday, March 4, 2011.

Criteria:

HEEF applicants must be:

A. A Latino/a who has lived in Orange County (OC), CA for the past 4 years;
B. An OC public or private high school graduate who enrolls fulltime at a 2 or 4-year college; or an OC community college transfer who enrolls fulltime at a 4-year university;
C. Eligible for need based financial aid.

HEEF General and Sub Fund scholarships require that an applicant submit a FAFSA and report their Expected Family Contribution (EFC) on their On-Line HEEF application. If an applicant is not eligible to apply for federal or state need based financial aid, the applicant must complete the self-reported information section of the On-Line application.

HEEF scholarships are based on a combination of low-income family background, academic achievement and involvement in extracurricular activities; community volunteer work, church service or employment.

HEEF General Scholarships — Four Categories for Fall 2011:

Scholarship of Excellence

For superior academic achievement (3.9 GPA or higher) in high school or community college. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $1,000-$5,000

High School Seniors

For OC high school seniors who will attend university, community college or trade school. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $250-$3,000

Community College Student

For OC community college transfers to a 4-year university. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $1,000-$3,000

Applicants must meet specific criteria required for these Sub Fund scholarships:

Angel and Rosemary Varela Scholarship

For OC community college transfers who do not qualify for federal or state need based financial aid. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $500-$2,000

Architecture and Engineering Scholarship

Must enroll in an accredited 4 or 5 year Architecture or Engineering Program. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $1,000-$4,000

Arts Scholarship

For high school or community college students who enroll in music, drama, dance, visual or fine art and graphic design major. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $1,000-$2,000

Association of Hispanic Professionals for Education

For a high school senior or community college transfer who plans to enroll as a Business Administration major. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $500-$2,000

Chapman University Scholarship Program

For a high school senior of immigrant parents who enrolls at Chapman University. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: TBD

De La Libertad Scholarship Fund

For Human Options clients and/or their children, who enroll at a 2- or 4-year college, a certified vocational training or other pre-approved educational programs. May be renewable.
Award Amount: $500-$2,000

Eisner Foundation Scholarship

For youth that are active participants in GOALS.
The award may be used for fees or tutoring. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $500-$1,000

El Viento Scholarship

For high school seniors who participated in the El Viento program from 4th -12th grade and will attend a Coast Community College. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $500-$2,000

Fernando & Olga Niebla Scholarship

For HS seniors or CC transfers who major in Spanish/English Literature or Language and have an interest in writing fiction, non-fiction or poetry. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $1,000-$2,000

Friends of CA State Fullerton / Richard Bermudez Scholarship

For high school seniors and community college transfers who enroll at CSUF and demonstrate extracurricular or community leadership. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $500-$3,000

Friends of the University of California, Irvine Scholarship

For high school seniors or community college transfers who enroll at UC Irvine and demonstrate extracurricular or community leadership. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $1,000-$4,000

Healthcare Education Scholarship Fund

For high school seniors or community college transfers who plan to major in Healthcare. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $500- $1,000

Henry T. Nicholas III Foundation Fund Scholarship:

For undergraduate and graduate students seeking IT and Engineering degrees, regardless of student year. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award amount: $1,000-$3,000

Hispanic Bar Association /Wally Davis Memorial Legal Scholarship Fund

Honors Wally Davis, one of the first OC Hispanic attorneys. Must be enrolled in Law School. Refer to HBA website. www.ochba.org/Student_Resources/Wally_Davis_Scholarship.html

Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

High school seniors or community college transfers majoring in Business, Marketing, Finance, International Business and Management. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $500-$2,000

Hispanic Council of Realtors

High school seniors and community college transfers interested in real estate and business development. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $500-$2,000

Lara Family Scholarship

For Mexican/Mexican-American HS seniors or community college transfers who demonstrate extracurricular or community leadership. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $500-$2,000

Luévano Foundation

Awards tuition scholarships for OC Latino/a students in 6th-8th grade at St. Anne, St. Joachim, St. Joseph and School of Our Lady Catholic Schools. View luevanofoundation.org

For high school students or community college transfers majoring in Law Enforcement. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $1,000-$2,000

National Hispanic Business Women’s Association

For community college or university Latina students who are majoring in Business or Finance who are engaged in community service. May be renewable based on available funding.
Amount: $250-$1,000

New Century Financial Corporation

For high school seniors or community college transfers majoring in Business, Finance, or Marketing. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $500-$2,000

Orange County Register/Excelsior

For high school seniors or community college transfers who are involved in newspaper, yearbook, journalism or communications. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $500-$1,000

Orange County United Way

For high school seniors and community college transfers who demonstrate community leadership by volunteering at a community-based non-profit. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $500-$1,000

Sage Hill High School

For students enrolled at Sage Hill HS. May be renewable based on available funding.

For high school seniors and community college transfers who enroll at Soka and are involved in extracurricular and leadership activities. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $1,500-$3,000

Union Bank of California

For high school seniors and community college transfers majoring in Business, Finance, or Marketing. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $500-$1,000

Vanguard University Scholarship Fund:

For high school seniors or community college transfers who enroll at Vanguard. Scholarship may be used for tuition, books, and fees. May be renewable based on available funding.
Award Amount: $1,000 – $2,500
