Loretta Sanchez

An expensive date: Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez

Residents of Santa Ana have a median income of $41,050 per family, according to Wikipedia.  That works out to $789 a week.

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, who represents Santa Ana in the 47th Congressional District, is having a reception on Monday, December 14, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Antonello Ristorante, located at 3800 South Plaza Drive, in Santa Ana.

Check out the suggested contributions:

  • Team Sanchez $2400
  • PAC/Host $1000
  • Supporter $500
  • Friend$250

Families in Santa Ana are lucky to make $789 a week and Sanchez wants up to $2,400 from them, for the pleasure of her company?

If you can afford that, then you may RSVP to Kelly Martinez at 714-839-4431 or kmartinez@loretta.org.

  1. Taking cheap shots at Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez is not what is needed here. Assuming Van Tran is her opponent, knocking him and his ilk off the political map is far and away the most important issue here. By coincidence, Cogresswoman Loretta Sanchez is doing a far better job at the present time in her job than Van Tran is doing in his job. (what does he ever do?) Every opportunistic knock of Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez gives one more ray of hope to underdog Van Tran. Responsibility in journalism, please. You really think Van Tran and any other politician running for a significant office are not hosting fundraising dinners or something to finance their campaigns….duh.

  2. lottahope,

Seriously, Sanchez has never been challenged over the years. I see no reason why Tran would pose a threat to her.

At times like this I am reminded that Sanchez was once a Republican herself. She has a tendency towards elitism.

It is tone deaf for her to put on an event like this, at these prices, when so many people in her district are really hurting.

She could have, at least, collected Toy for Tots at this reception.

I like Sanchez – but she can be frustrating. As a single woman she is clueless about families and kids and about the working poor in general.

And I want to know why she won’t support the Dream Act…

  3. I think it’s hillarious that people are so judgemental. She’s a politician, running for office. She has to raise money in order to keep the people she employees and to keep her office running. The same as every other politician in the world. Also, for those of you who cant read, it says Suggested Contribution. SUGGESTED being the keyword. If someone showed up w/ $100, I’m sure they wouldn’t be kicked out.

Leave this woman alone. She’s decided to go into public service during some of the toughest times in our nations history. She deserves respect.

    1. OC Girl,

I do respect Ms. Sanchez. But she has a tendency towards elitism. She represents a very poor district and needs to pay more heed to the travails of the working poor who are her constituents, IMHO.

Do I support her? Yes. But if she faces off in the general against Quang Pham I think I just might vote for him…I cannot do so in the primary because I am not a Republican and they don’t allow independent voters to vote in their primary elections.

  4. If tonight’s event is a reception/fundraiser then it doesn’t matter what the price of admission is.

On the other hand if this is the Congressional District’s holiday open house that might be a issue.

Regarding Assemblyman Van Tran, I had a repair guy at my house. He is of Vietnamese heritge and lives in Little Saigon.

He said he would vote for Loretta because her not being Vietnamese gave her greater freedom to negoiate with the Vietnamese government.

He thought Van Tran’s being of Vietnamese origin was a disadvantage regarding issues in Vietnam.

  5. Art,

I thought the Republicans voted down the resolution to disallow Independents from voting in the primary?

  6. I don’t understand the point of this post. Anyone running for the House of Representatives is doing fundraising all the time. There is no exemption for politicians from poor areas. Are you suggesting that because she is from a low income area she should not be doing fundraising? If so, you have no understanding of what it takes to get elected to Congress.

  7. What has she done for the community but dodge the real issues of our community. She needs to concentrate on Jobs, Immigration reform, and helping small business (not Large Unions). It seems that she it too busy helped others in congress pass their ideas in their communities. How about District 47th? Oh, I’m sorry she is asking for more money.
