The year 2016 cannot end soon enough! A violent year in Santa Ana was capped on Thursday night by a visit by the O.C. Sheriff’s Department bomb squad to a Santa Ana home after a 61-year old man, Nong Nguyen, was found in a bedroom that may have been booby trapped with improvised explosive devices, according to the O.C. Register.

Nguyen lived at the 2200 block of North Jetty Street. His family got worried when he failed to answer a knock on his bedroom door just before 8 p.m., according to the SAPD.

When the family members finally were able to enter the room, they found that Nguyen had died after apparently blowing up one of his explosive devices. Oddly enough the family did not hear an explosion, according to the SAPD.

The SAPD investigators found several other explosive devices in the room and so they called in the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad for help.

The police evacuated the house in question and two adjacent homes.

The bomb squad stayed still at the home for a while and were still there as late as 11 p.m.

All of this took place in North Santa Ana, not far from Edna Park and the Riverview Golf Course, in Ward 3 which is now represented by new Councilman Jose Solorio.
