Summer / Labor Day Holiday Avoid DUI Campaign – Final Report

SANTA ANA, California – (September 3, 2013) – The Summer/Labor Day Holiday DUI crackdown on drinking drivers has ended and resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests from sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and routine patrols in Orange County during the past 18 days.

From Friday, August 16 at 12:01 a.m. through Monday, September 2 at midnight, officers representing 38 county law enforcement agencies arrested 793 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2012, 843 DUI arrests occurred during the same time period.

Law enforcement officials will be conducting more Avoid DUI efforts throughout the county and region during Halloween and Thanksgiving. Police, Sheriff and the CHP encourage all motorists to help make your community safer by reporting drunk drivers. Call 9-1-1 anytime you encounter an impaired driver.

Grant funding for this program was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
